Corporate Controller

RealCold is currently searching for a Corporate Controller to join our growing Finance team. Ideal candidates possess in-depth experience in accounting and finance combined with strong technical skills, natural curiosity and the ability to thrive in a highly collaborative team environment. You will report directly to the CFO and be responsible for the leadership, development, and execution of all corporate accounting initiatives at RealCold. These initiatives include, but are not limited to, financial systems, accounting policies and practices, internal controls, and preparation of internal and external financial statements and reports.  This position will reside in either Lakeland, Florida or Lockhart, Texas.   

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and develop the accounting team to support the growth in scale and complexity of the organization.  
  • Direct responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger. 
  • Ensure financial statements accurately reflect company performance and results. Endorse internal and external financial reporting and disclosures as required, including any statutory and lender reporting. 
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to include, but not limited to:  finance, operations, and sales team to ensure monthly results are promptly and clearly communicated to the leadership team. 
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive set of GAAP compliant policies and practices with a focus on simplicity for the business team to ensure clarity of understanding and ease of application. 
  • Counsel the CFO and company senior management on technical accounting matters as necessary to address and resolve appropriately and in accordance with accounting guidelines. 
  • Stay current on technical accounting, regulatory, and financial reporting developments to ensure RealCold maintains compliance with developing standards and regulations. 
  • Design and implement an appropriate internal control framework for financial transacting and reporting, including cross-functional elements as appropriate. 
  • Develop and maintain control policies, standards and procedures that comply with all regulatory guidelines and promote cost-effective risk mitigation. 
  • Lead the tax function, including engagement of external advisors as appropriate. 
  • Manage relationships with key external parties on behalf of RealCold, including external auditors, tax advisors, banks, and consultants as necessary. 
  • Collaborate as strategic advisor to the CFO on financial planning and risk management initiatives. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Education:  CPA designation required.  MBA or master’s degree in accounting preferred. 
  • A minimum of 10 years or more of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably in world class organization(s) with a solid reputation for developing strong accounting and finance professionals. 
  • Excellent experience across all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.  
  • Proven success as a business advocate, not just a “bean counter”, rather a true partner to the business.  Experience in the cold storage warehouse industry as a finance or accounting partner a plus, but not a requirement.  
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.   
  • GL/payroll system conversion and/or implementation experience is a plus, Sage Intacct and ADP specific experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrated natural curiosity to understand “why” and a desire to improve processes and systems. 
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of integrity and commitment to accuracy. 
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time (up to 10 hours a day) with constant interruptions and with competing demands. 
  • Ability to walk through a cold storage warehouse from time to time to gain insight into the business.
